Portland has many secrets to it's myriad of mysterious characters that populate it's over-saturated Hip-Hop scene. But very few are as enigmatic, charismatic and musically eclectic as Intellectually Sound.
Intellectually Sound (I.S. for short) are Portland area natives that have embraced the underground lifestyle and mentality that most people in this "game" only talk about in narrative or falsehood. That is to say; Intellectually Sound is more than your prosaic Hip-Hop crew trying to make a mark in today's ever-expanding business of music. Intellectually Sound is rather a collective effort toward a more attuned and greater perspective on art, life, and everything that falls between. Using music as their medium I.S. has catalyzed a movement. A movement in the direction of intelligence, and a respect for culture, art, and humanity- in music as well as lifestyle. This state of awareness is summed up in what they call "Head Hop". "Head Hop" is a campaign for the evolution of Hip-Hop. Where Hip-Hop tells you how it is or how it was, Head-Hop provides a look ahead at how it could be.
For their debut album, Beats and a Poem Vol.1, each of the six members brings their own ingredient to the table to form a brilliantly comprehensive project. Wordsmiths "Mumbles Emcee", "Akro", and "Brandon Krusty", bellow a brilliant storm of witty, rapid fire cadence with relevant subject matter that is tastefully accompanied by an eclectic sea of hypnotizing soundscapes and thundering drums effectuated by producer's "The Byrdman" and "2x". Last but certainly not least, the soulful voice of vocalist "Sara" (as well as "2x") is sprinkled over the top of these ingredients to create a masterfully crafted work of art.
